Geothermal drilling is a business in which nature rarely compromises, and turnkey contracts can ruthlessly put contractors' capabilities to the test. Who really bears the cost when subsurface reality diverges from the design assumptions?

You don't need a textbook to answer that question – you just need to listen to the practitioners. In a recent interview for the Polski Przemysł portal, Arkadiusz Biedulski (President of the Management Board of UOS Drilling S.A.) and Wojciech Drzymała (President of the Management Board of Geotermia Podhalańska) take a detailed look at the delivery of the groundbreaking PGP-7 well in Bańska Niżna.

Engineering versus unforgiving geology

Rather than dry facts, the conversation reveals what managing multi-million risk really looks like behind the scenes. Arkadiusz Biedulski describes the enormous financial pressure placed on the contractor when extremely hard rock formations, which are costly to drill, are encountered much shallower than forecast. In Podhale there is no room for error – maintaining budget discipline and avoiding substantial downtime costs required our team to continuously correct the well trajectory, supported by advanced directional drilling services.

We are proud that our drill bits are paving the way for Poland's green energy transition.
