The Podhale region continues to strengthen its position as a key hub for Poland’s renewable energy sector. On 16 January 2026, the construction site of the Bańska PGP-7 geothermal well in Szaflary was visited by key decision-makers responsible for the development of natural resources and environmental protection. The meeting took place at the drilling site operated by one of the companies within our group - UOS Drilling S.A.

Strategic Discussions on the Future of EnergyDevelopment

The investment site hosted Mr Krzysztof Galos, Undersecretary of State and Chief National Geologist, as well as Mr Józef Matysiak, President of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOŚiGW), together with a team of experts. Representatives of Geotermia Polska Sp. z o.o. were also present, and the visit agenda included an inspection of PEC Geotermia Podhalańska S.A.

The meeting provided an opportunity for substantive technical and strategic discussions on the future utilisation of geothermal energy in the region and the importance of the PGP-7 project for Poland’s energy security.

Drilling Progress Report: Successive Geological Formations Being Penetrated

Despite demanding weather conditions and severe frost, drilling operations carried out by the UOS Drilling S.A. team are progressing very efficiently. Since the commencement of drilling operations in December 2025, the following milestones have been achieved:

  • Current depth: drilling operations have reached a depth of 1,430 metres.
  • Geological formation: the well is currently penetrating the Zakopane formations (Eocene–Oligocene).
  • Project objective: reaching productive geothermal water reservoirs that will ultimately supply the district heating system of Geotermia Podhalańska and provide heat to households across the region.
State-Of-The-Art Technology and Record-Breaking Experience

The implementation of such a technically demanding project is possible thanks to the advanced technological capabilities of our group. Drilling operations are being carried out using the most modern drilling rig currently operating in Poland, owned by UOS Drilling S.A.

It is worth emphasising that the same drilling team and the same advanced rig recently completed a landmark project – the Bańska PGP-4 well, which, at a depth of 6,103 metres, is the deepest geothermal well ever drilled in Poland.

The use of proven, top-tier technology guarantees:

  • Precision and operational safety at every depth interval.
  • Environmental protection, with operations conducted in accordance with the highest environmental standards.
  • Reliability, enabling continuous drilling operations regardless of harsh winter conditions in the Podhale region.
Geothermal Energy as a Foundation of Poland’s Renewable Energy Sector

The presence of representatives of the Ministry and NFOŚiGW confirms that the investment in Szaflary is an important element of Poland’s energy mix. Harnessing clean and stable geothermal energy from deep underground formations is a key direction towards decarbonisation and long-term national energy independence.
