GGT Solutions S.A. participates in the implementation of one of the key infrastructure investments in Poland – the construction of the Kolnik-Gdańsk gas pipeline, which is part of the FSRU program, fundamental to the country's energy security. The investor of this strategic undertaking is GAZ-SYSTEM.
One of the most demanding stages of the project is the trenchless crossing of the Martwa Wisła river in Gdańsk, realized by GGT Solutions S.A. utilizing advanced Direct Pipe technology.
Drilling under the Martwa Wisła – scale and execution technology
As part of the task, GGT Solutions S.A. performs drilling with a length of 1042 meters, which is one of the longest and most complex trenchless crossings within the entire investment. Due to significant terrain constraints, the steel pipeline with a diameter of DN 1000 mm was divided into four sections. Individual segments are successively added, precisely welded, and installed directly into the borehole as drilling progresses.
The application of Direct Pipe technology enables single-stage pipeline installation without the need for open trenches. This solution allows for minimal interference with the natural environment and existing infrastructure, which is of key importance in the densely built-up area of Gdańsk.
Works in demanding terrain and atmospheric conditions
The crossing is being realized in difficult terrain conditions and unfavorable weather. Recent weeks have seen intensive work conducted at low temperatures and in challenging soil. Despite these challenges, the GGT Solutions S.A. team and specialized equipment base operate without disruptions, executing tasks according to schedule and the highest quality and safety standards.
Modern trenchless technologies, such as Direct Pipe, allow for effective work execution where traditional methods would be excessively invasive or technically impossible.
Project Investor – GAZ-SYSTEM
The project investor is GAZ-SYSTEM, the company responsible for natural gas transmission in Poland and the implementation of strategic infrastructure investments of national and international importance. The FSRU program constitutes one of the key elements of the long-term strategy for diversifying gas supply sources and directions to Poland.
The realization of the onshore section of the gas pipeline, including the Martwa Wis³a crossing, is an essential element of the entire transmission system, which in the future will enable the offtake of gas from the floating LNG terminal in the Gulf of Gdańsk region and its further distribution to the national transmission system.
